Our Shop

Green Days Day Care Logo

Our Green Days Shop gives a great opportunity for our students to perform work-based tasks, and learn valuable workplace skills such as handling money, customer service, storekeeping and team management. As part of our outcome-based support approach, our arts and crafts shop is an excellent tool for learning!

The Green Days Shop & Cafe

Green Days Shop InsideThe service users are gaining experience in working in a café, from orders to making lunches, teas and coffee, serving and payment.

Green Days’ not-for-profit arts and crafts shop – 45 High St, Taunton .   We opened in February 2017 offering an opportunity to work together in the heart of our community. It’s  great to be a platform for local artists and crafters to display their work and for us to work with them inclusively.

As we are an Outcome Based Service we have purpose for all that we do.  We welcome customers, volunteers or even those who just want to come in and say hello?

The shop gives us hands on employability skills to include:

  • Teamwork
  • Customer Service Skills
  • Communication and Telephone Skills (speaking and listening)
  • Health and Safety
  • Money and Till Experience
  •  Stock Control and Display
  • Problem Solving
  • Cleaning/Vacuuming/Dusting Skills
  • Writing
  • Shopping

In the back room we do craft skills – learning to use a sewing machine, knitting, felting, gluing, painting, upcycling small pieces of furniture, and creating hampers and Christmas Eve boxes.

We organise bespoke courses with learning employability skills alongside the practice, to reinforce the understanding of various topics – money, health and safety, customer care teamwork, manual handling, lunch breaks, and timekeeping.

Being right in the centre of town we have made contacts with Job Centre plus, Taunton Live and sang in the Orchard Centre to raise money for the League of Friends. Used the library to do the employability related courses and visited a NHS Keep Healthy Day. Making artwork to go into an Art/photographic.   Taken part selling and performing at the Children’s Festival at the Race Course.   Made useful contacts with councillors and even had our own festival outside our shop of with African drumming, carpool karaoke and dance.  Joining in with fundraising events with other local businesses and organisations in the High Street

The Green Days Shop has opened up so many doors for us and the opportunity for our service users to learn many transferable workplace and social skills.
